18-Year-Old Woman Dies in NYPD Custody
An 18-year-old woman died early Saturday morning while in police custody at a Bronx precinct station, despite efforts by officers to save her life.
She became unconscious around 12:30 a.m. while detained at the 41st Precinct on Longwood Avenue in Hunts Point. Officers called an ambulance and performed CPR in an attempt to revive her, but were unsuccessful.
Emergency medical services transported her to Lincoln Hospital, but she was pronounced dead there.
Authorities have not released her name pending further investigation. The NYPD’s Force Investigation Division is examining the circumstances surrounding her detention, but details about why she was in custody have not been disclosed.
Police stated that multiple officers administered CPR while awaiting emergency services. The investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of her sudden collapse and subsequent death.
