Kevin Durant Officially Traded to Rockets: Farewell to Suns
Kevin Durant Joins Houston Rockets After Leaving Phoenix Suns
Kevin Durant’s stint with the Phoenix Suns has officially ended as he was traded to the Houston Rockets in a historic seven-team deal. Following the trade, Durant shared a heartfelt farewell message on social media, expressing gratitude for his time in Phoenix.
“My time in Phoenix has come to an end. Every stop along my journey has positively impacted me. Behind the scenes, there are dedicated individuals working tirelessly to support players, and I appreciate everyone—from support staff to teammates—who has been part of this extended family. I believe the NBA is one big community. Much love to Arizona. Houston, I can’t wait!”
Now 37 years old, Durant transitions to his fifth NBA team. The 15-time All-Star and four-time scoring champion averaged 26.6 points, six rebounds, and 4.2 assists last season. Despite his significant role, the Suns struggled during his two seasons there, finishing 36-46 last year and missing the playoffs, with an early exit in 2024.
Durant has one year remaining on his current contract and may extend it for two more seasons next summer. As long as that extension is secured, Houston appears poised to be his final team in his illustrious career.
Rockets Building a Championship Team
The Rockets are making a strong push this offseason, adding talent like center Clint Capela to bolster their frontcourt alongside Alperen Şengün. Their projected starting lineup could include Durant, Fred VanVleet, Amen Thompson, and Jabari Smith Jr. Last season, Houston finished with a 52-30 record, earning their first playoff appearance in five years before being eliminated in the opening round.
With head coach Ime Udoka entering his third season, the team aims for its first championship in over three decades. Durant’s addition is seen as a vital piece in their championship ambitions, providing veteran leadership and star power as the team looks to ascend to new heights in the coming seasons.
