Zayn Malik Opens Up About Facing Racism in One Direction

Zayn Malik Addresses Allegations of Racism in New Music

In his latest song, “Fuchsia Sea,” Zayn Malik appears to reference experiences with racism within his former band, One Direction. Sharing a preview on social media, Malik raps about facing prejudice despite his efforts and background, singing, “Got my back against the wall so much they think I got a brick fascination… I worked hard in a white band, and they still laughed at the Asian.” He also mentions being aware of connotations surrounding his identity and working tirelessly to succeed.

Malik, who is of Pakistani, English, and Irish descent, announced that he would release the full track soon. Fans responded positively to the snippet, expressing pride and excitement about his return to music.

Malik left One Direction in 2015, after which the group went on an indefinite hiatus. The band was formed in 2010 after auditioning separately on “X Factor” but being grouped by judges. The members have since pursued solo careers, with Liam Payne passing away last year. Harry Styles has previously hinted at a possible reunion, though nothing has been confirmed.

Recently, Malik has been gradually re-engaging with the public following his 2021 split from model Gigi Hadid, with whom he shares a daughter. Despite his quiet period, fans remain eager for new material and potential band reunions.
