Arsenal Nearing Viktor Gyokeres Deal After Personal Terms with Sporting Lisbon Star
Arsenal Nears Agreement to Sign Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting Lisbon
Arsenal is close to finalizing a deal to sign Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting Lisbon, with the club reportedly having reached a consensus on personal terms. The Swedish striker has expressed a clear desire to join the Gunners, despite having interest from Manchester United.
The negotiations are ongoing over the transfer fee, but sources suggest Arsenal is making significant progress. Gyokeres, who scored 54 goals last season, is expected to sign a five-year contract once the club agrees on a bid. Sporting Lisbon is reportedly holding out for a transfer package of just under £70 million.
Despite Manchester United’s interest, Gyokeres preferred a move to Arsenal, and Sporting president Frederico Varandas indicated no official offers had been received, adding that the club would not be pressured into a sale. The forward has an impressive record, netting nearly 100 goals in 102 appearances over the past two seasons, and is under contract until 2028.
Earlier this summer, other clubs like Juventus and Saudi Pro League teams showed interest, but Gyokeres turned down lucrative offers. Arsenal initially considered other targets, such as Benjamin Sesko and Ollie Watkins, but shifting focus now appears to be on Gyokeres.
The move is set to be a timely addition as Arsenal prepares for pre-season training and their upcoming tour of Asia, beginning on July 19. The transfer saga is reaching its climax amid a busy transfer window for the club.
