Alphonso Davies Distraught Over Jamal Musiala’s Injury During Club World Cup Match
Injury Devastates Bayern Player During Club World Cup Match
Jamal Musiala of Bayern Munich suffered a severe ankle injury during a recent match in the Club World Cup, prompting distress among teammates and spectators alike. The incident occurred in a clash with Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, after Musiala pursued a ball inside the penalty area. Video footage revealed his ankle became caught between Donnarumma’s body and arms during a collision, leading to a violent twisting motion.
The impact resulted in a fractured tibia and fibula for Musiala, with an estimated recovery period of four to five months. He was immediately taken off the pitch on a stretcher and transported to hospital for treatment.
Teammate Alphonso Davies, who was streaming a watchalong on Twitch, appeared visibly upset. He removed his headphones and dropped to his knees, visibly emotional, crying out: “Oh my God no, no! Please no, no.” Donnarumma, overwhelmed by guilt, later expressed remorse on Instagram, saying, “All my prayers and well wishes are with you @jamalmusiala10.”
Physically and emotionally affected, Donnarumma was seen walking off the pitch in tears at halftime. Bayern’s goalkeeper Manuel Neuer criticized Donnarumma’s challenge, stating it was an unnecessary risk, and questioned whether he showed proper respect by checking on Musiala after the collision.
Club manager Vincent Kompany expressed concern over Musiala’s injury, describing it as potentially serious. He said, “It didn’t look good, and I won’t make a diagnosis, but it appears to be an ankle injury.”
Reflecting on the incident, Kompany shared his emotional response, emphasizing how deeply such injuries impact players whose lives revolve around the sport. Despite the setback, he acknowledged the team’s resilience and their determination to stay strong in honor of Musiala during the game.
Musiala was quickly taken off the field on a stretcher before being hospitalized.
