DHS Declares Zero Tolerance for Attacks at ICE Detention Centers
Government Responds Firmly to Attacks Near ICE Facilities
The federal government has declared a strict stance against violence targeting officers or property, following recent incidents near Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention centers in Texas and Oregon.
In Texas, law enforcement responded to a report of a suspicious individual with a firearm in Alvarado, where an officer was shot while approaching the suspect. Several suspects fled but were soon apprehended with assistance from local sheriff’s deputies and other agencies. The wounded officer was airlifted to a hospital in Fort Worth, received treatment, and was later released.
Meanwhile, in Portland, Oregon, clashes erupted between protesters and federal officers at an ICE facility after the passage of a new law by the President. The federal authorities emphasized their zero-tolerance policy for assaults on personnel or damage to federal property and assured ongoing efforts to secure these sites.
Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche stated that authorities are actively monitoring these incidents and coordinating with law enforcement partners to ensure safety and hold those responsible accountable.
