Cristiano Ronaldo has expressed his condolences privately to the family of Diogo Jota and his brother, Andre Silva, following their tragic deaths in a car accident. According to reports, Ronaldo contacted Jota’s wife and parents to assure them of his support and shared that he would avoid attending the joint funeral to respect their privacy and prevent media attention.

The Portuguese captain was expected to attend the funeral in Gondomar, near Porto, alongside team-mates and club officials. However, he was notably absent, with reports suggesting he was holidaying in Majorca, where he was seen aboard his luxury yacht, the Azimut Grande. His absence sparked discussions in Portugal, with some critics labeling it as an inexplicable oversight for a national team captain.

The funeral procession was attended by many football colleagues, including players from Manchester City, Manchester United, and Liverpool, as well as Portugal internationals Joao Cancelo and Ruben Neves. Mourners paid their respects at the Igreja Matriz de Gondomar, where the coffins of Jota and Andre Silva were carried in by family members and friends.

Jota’s widow, Rute Cardoso, was visibly emotional as she laid her hand on his coffin. The funeral also saw prominent figures like the president of FC Porto, Andre Villas Boas, and Liverpool players Virgil Van Dijk and Andy Robertson, who arrived to honor their former teammate.
