Arsenal Reacts to Thomas Partey’s Allegations Amid Club Departure
Arsenal Responds to Thomas Partey’s Legal Charges
After his contract with Arsenal concluded, former midfielder Thomas Partey was formally charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, following an extensive investigation by authorities. The 32-year-old Ghanaian player, who spent five seasons with the club, denies all allegations.
In a brief statement, Arsenal confirmed that since Partey’s contract ended on June 30, the club cannot comment further due to ongoing legal proceedings. The charges relate to allegations made by three women between 2021 and 2022, with investigations beginning in February 2022. Partey was arrested in July 2022 but continued to play for Arsenal during the legal process, making over 50 appearances.
He is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on August 5. Through his lawyer, Partey expressed his intention to clear his name and stated he has cooperated fully with police and prosecutors. The Crown Prosecution Service confirmed that the charges were approved after a thorough review of evidence.
During his time at Arsenal, Partey made 167 appearances and scored nine goals, contributing to the club’s victory in the 2023 Community Shield. Despite injuries, he was a regular starter under manager Mikel Arteta, helping the team achieve second place in the Premier League and reach the Champions League semi-finals.
Recently, Partey left Arsenal, with reports indicating negotiations for a new contract had stalled. He has been training in Ghana and was recently named Ghana Footballer of the Year. In interviews, he emphasized the importance of family in his career decisions, highlighting his personal life as a key factor for his future choices.
Legal proceedings are now underway, and neither Partey nor Arsenal are expected to comment further until the court hearing occurs next month.
