Kristi Noem Considers Probe of NYC Socialist Mayor Candidate Zohran Mamdani

Homeland Security Considers Investigating NYC Mayoral Candidate Over Anti-Israel Demonstrations

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem is contemplating using her authority to investigate socialist mayoral hopeful Zohran Mamdani, citing concerns about his activities during anti-Israel protests, according to sources. During a recent Homeland Security Advisory Council meeting, Noem suggested that she might deploy previously unused powers to assess whether Mamdani’s stance on certain demonstrations poses a threat to public safety.

Mamdani, a Muslim who recently won the Democratic primary against former Governor Andrew Cuomo, has been publicly critical of Israel’s policies and has called for rent freezes and government-controlled grocery stores. His campaign also included a pledge to keep police funding unchanged after earlier calls to defund law enforcement. His positions have garnered mixed reactions, even among Democrats, with prominent figures like Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries criticizing certain statements he made about Israel and the situation in the Middle East.

Additionally, Mamdani’s support for protests endorsing foreign groups like Hamas and Hezbollah has alarmed some legal experts and political figures. One lawyer on the advisory council expressed concern over protests that have displayed banners of these groups near sensitive locations, emphasizing the potential danger.

Other members of the Homeland Security Council include advisors and figures from political and security circles, such as former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who described Mamdani as a “combination of an Islamic extremist and a communist,” warranting scrutiny. Mamdani responded to questions about the potential investigation by warning about the dangerous implications of such targeting for immigrant communities.

Mrs. Noem’s advisory council, which advises on national security issues with an annual budget of $800,000, deals with threats including terrorism and major disasters. Meanwhile, Giuliani reportedly supported GOP candidate Curtis Sliwa for mayor and discussed strategies to counter Mamdani’s growing popularity in New York City.

Reactions from DHS and Giuliani regarding the matter have yet to be disclosed.
