Florida Beachgoer Finds $500K ‘Yosemite Sam’ Surprise on Shoreline

Unusual Beach Discovery in Florida: Packages Containing Cocaine Wash Ashore

A beach visitor on the Florida Panhandle uncovered an unexpected and alarming sight over the weekend. Twenty-five black packages, each featuring the image of the cartoon character Yosemite Sam, were found washed up along the shoreline.

Police confirmed that these packages contained approximately $500,000 worth of cocaine. Authorities urged the public to avoid touching or opening suspicious items found on the beach, as their contents could be highly hazardous.

The packages were seized by law enforcement and entered into evidence, but their origin remains unknown. This incident follows a similar discovery just days earlier when another bundle of cocaine was found on an Alabama shore. That package, weighing around 150 pounds, contained 50 kilos of wrapped cocaine, according to the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office.

Beachgoers and residents are reminded to report any suspicious packages immediately and not to handle them. Authorities emphasized that additional illicit bundles surfacing in the area are not unusual, but they pose significant danger due to potential chemicals or dangerous substances inside.

Following the discovery, the sheriff’s office contacted federal agents from the Department of Homeland Security’s Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) for further investigation. No official statements from HSI had been made at the time.
