Travis Kelce Faces Challenges Hosting SNL Due to Reading Struggles

Travis Kelce Opens Up About Challenges Hosting “SNL”

Football star Travis Kelce revealed he faced significant difficulties when hosting “Saturday Night Live” in March 2023, citing struggles with reading as a major obstacle. During the show’s pre-episode table read, Kelce said he found the process challenging due to his limited reading skills, which made it difficult to fully engage with the material beyond just trying to get through the lines.

Despite the hurdles, Kelce emphasized that he stayed professional, focusing on delivering his performance without appearing to “look like a loser.” He wanted to earn respect for his serious approach, even if comedy isn’t his natural forte. “I was just trying not to skip lines and stay in the moment,” he shared, acknowledging his comfort with audio over reading.

Kelce admitted he struggled through the “SNL” table read because of his reading difficulties.

Kelce, 35, admitted he still feels out of his element in acting roles, including his recent appearance in FX’s “Grotesquerie.” While he tends to be more comfortable with comedy, he said he felt “out of place” taking on more serious roles and hasn’t fully “grasped the acting world yet.”

However, his performance garnered praise from co-star Niecy Nash, who appreciated Kelce’s openness to feedback. She noted that he was receptive to notes and suggestions, which she saw as a positive trait. Kelce also received compliments from “Grotesquerie” creator Ryan Murphy, who described him as charming, smart, and talented.

Even with challenges, Kelce handled his “SNL” hosting gig professionally and with discipline.

Murphy also shared that Kelce’s girlfriend, Taylor Swift, encouraged him to take on acting roles, praising his discipline. Murphy summed up Kelce as a star with a bright future: “He’s so charismatic and smart, and he can do anything.”
