Gareth Bale Offers £40M to Buy Cardiff City, Faces Hurdles to Own Hometown Club
Gareth Bale Makes a £40 Million Bid to Purchase Cardiff City
A group led by Gareth Bale has submitted a £40 million offer to acquire Cardiff City, a club he considers his hometown team. Bale, the Welsh football legend, has expressed a strong desire to own the club, which recently faced relegation to League One for the first time since 2003.
Current owner Vincent Tan has indicated openness to selling the club and reportedly would consider Bale’s proposal, especially with backing from U.S. investors. Bale publicly revealed his intentions during the European premiere of F1: The Movie in London, affirming his interest in becoming part of an ownership group.
Having retired two years ago after winning five Champions League titles with Real Madrid and earning 111 caps for Wales, Bale is now stepping into the business side of football. Although initial bids have been rejected, both Bale’s group and the club remain hopeful that a deal can be reached soon.
Bale emphasized his personal connection to Cardiff, stating, “It’s my hometown club, where I grew up, and my uncle played for them. Being part of the ownership would be a dream.”
The bid follows a recent move by fellow Welsh star Luka Modric, who became a co-owner of Swansea City. Bale’s earlier interest in investing in Plymouth Argyle appears to have been shelved. Cardiff’s new head coach, Brian Barry-Murphy, was appointed after a tumultuous season that saw the club change managers multiple times.
Despite the setbacks, Bale remains optimistic about the future and hopes to help restore Cardiff to its former Premier League glory.
