Trace Cyrus Criticizes His Father Over Family Drama

Trace Cyrus publicly called out his father, Billy Ray Cyrus, for missing his grandmother’s funeral in 2020 to attend a fashion show. He posted a scathing message on Instagram, accusing Billy Ray of being fame-hungry and prioritizing appearances over family.

“This man is so desperate for fame, it’s pathetic,” Trace wrote alongside a photo of Billy Ray, adding that Billy Ray flew to Italy for fashion purposes instead of attending Mammie’s funeral while still married to Trace’s mother.

Despite paying for a $60,000 private jet, Trace claimed Billy Ray declined to attend the funeral. He expressed his embarrassment, saying, “You’re the lamest man ever to walk planet earth,” and that he once admired him but no longer does.

Trace added that he no longer cares if he ever communicates with his father, displaying a screenshot of a fan comment calling his rant a ‘cry for help.’ He responded that he’s beyond caring and views his father as a ‘lost cause.’

“I’ll continue to thrive as the oldest son of the family. The Cyrus name will continue through me and my children.”

He also criticized Billy Ray’s long hairstyle, calling it “weird.” Trace shared a selfie and a caption, emphasizing his disapproval.

He closed his post with a plea for Billy Ray to “get right with God,” pointing out ongoing family tensions, including his mother Tish’s divorce from Billy Ray in 2022. Trace also mentioned that Tish married Dominic Purcell in 2023, while Billy Ray’s recent relationship is with supermodel Elizabeth Hurley.

Trace’s outburst happened shortly after Miley Cyrus spoke about their “messy” family, revealing they never sought therapy for their issues, and that their relationships have been strained for over a decade.

Miley joked that their family avoided therapy altogether, citing that even getting everyone in the same room was difficult. She shared that during their dark period, she remained loyal to her mother despite the chaos.

Family members, including Tish, have moved on, with Tish marrying Dominic Purcell and Billy Ray briefly tying the knot with Firerose. Billy Ray is now dating Elizabeth Hurley.

Trace has previously expressed tension with Billy Ray, especially after calling out his brother Braison for defending their father’s antics. Trace responded to fans questioning family updates, asserting he is “past the point of caring” and that his focus is on his family’s legacy.
