Tr:um:p Praises DeSantis: From Frosty to 10/10 Relations
Trump and DeSantis Show Warmth During Tour of New Migrant Facility
During a recent visit to the Everglades’ “Alligator Alcatraz,” President Trump expressed positive sentiments about Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, contrasting with the harsh personal attacks he made during last year’s GOP primary race. Trump commented, “Ten out of ten — maybe 9.9,” on their current relationship, highlighting a friendly tone as they toured the facility designed for immigration enforcement.
DeSantis, whom Trump previously branded “DeSanctimonious,” greeted Trump casually in jeans and a blazer. The visit included a walk through the center, which is set up to encourage “self-deportation” due to its swampy, uninviting environment. The facility comprises large tents divided into pods with chain-link fences resembling dog kennels, holding multiple bunk beds.
In a roundtable inside the camp, Trump said, “We had a little off period for a couple of days,” joking about the months of public disputes. The two leaders, who previously clashed during the GOP primary, managed a cordial and friendly interaction, signaling a potential political recalibration ahead of next year’s elections.
The visit marked the most extensive joint public appearance between Trump and DeSantis since their political rivalry intensified. While many supporters are rallying behind Rep. Byron Donalds for the gubernatorial race, DeSantis has floated his wife Casey as a possible successor.
DeSantis also called on other states to help develop similar detention centers, comparing Florida’s rapid deployment to his COVID-19 management efforts, calling it “like the monoclonal antibodies thing on steroids.”
