Real Madrid Star Rodrygo Benched Again as Arsenal Receives Potential Boost

The pursuit of Real Madrid winger Rodrygo by Arsenal has gained further momentum after the Brazilian was once more left out of Madrid’s starting lineup at the FIFA Club World Cup.

Rodrygo’s future remains uncertain as reports suggest his performances could determine whether he stays at the Spanish giants this summer. Once seen as destined to leave Madrid—especially after expressing his discontent with the club and opting not to play in El Clasico—the 24-year-old has found his game time limited this season.

New Madrid coach Xabi Alonso has appeared to offer Rodrygo a pathway back into the team, giving him a start in their opening match of the tournament. He contributed an assist during the 1-1 draw with Al-Hilal, playing for 65 minutes. However, he was an unused substitute in recent matches against Pachuca and Juventus.

Madrid secured a 1-0 victory over Juventus to advance to the quarter-finals, thanks to Gonzalo Garcia’s decisive goal. Garcia has increasingly featured in the attack after Kylian Mbappe was sidelined with gastroenteritis, intensifying competition among Madrid’s forwards.

Alonso emphasized that Rodrygo has been training well, highlighting that the decision on playing time rests with him. “He’s been training with good spirits, and it’s my choice who gets on the pitch,” Alonso stated. He also praised Garcia’s impact, noting that everyone must stay prepared to make a difference when called upon.

Meanwhile, Madrid are reportedly asking for around €90 million (£77 million) for Rodrygo, with Arsenal reportedly having a significant chance of completing the transfer, according to local sources.
