Meghan McCain Slams Lauren Sánchez’s $50M Wedding as a Waste of Money

Criticism of Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez’s Extravagant Wedding

Meghan McCain voiced strong disapproval of the lavish $50 million wedding held by Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez, calling it a “waste of money.” During her “Citizen McCain” podcast, she criticized the event as a display of excessive wealth amidst societal concerns.

Mocking a photo from the ceremony, she quipped, “That carpet looks like I picked it up from Home Depot.” She also labeled the event as “gaudy” and “tacky,” criticizing the choice to host a star-studded celebration in Venice, Italy, a city she considered inappropriate for such a spectacle. McCain argued that Bezos’s decision was inconsiderate, especially since he has “no social awareness of what’s going on in the world.”

She elaborated that the wedding reflected a blatant show of wealth designed to flaunt financial power, contrasting it with the current climate where “a lot of anger” revolves around billionaires not paying their fair share of taxes or contributing adequately to society. She questioned the optics of someone like Bezos hosting such an over-the-top event, suggesting it was more about vanity than meaningful celebration.

She speculated that Bezos’s choice to marry in Venice was driven by a desire to showcase wealth and invite celebrity presence, even questioning the inclusion of well-known figures like George Clooney. McCain expressed confusion over the couple’s apparent lack of social awareness, describing their actions as disconnected from societal issues.

McCain also shared her perspective on social media, posting a clip of her critique with the caption, “What else can we expect from a tacky, tone-deaf billionaire I guess? 🤷‍♀️.” Her commentary extends to her previous jabs at Bezos, including his space endeavors, which she described as an “ego stroke.”

Similarly, actress Olivia Munn and others have criticized Bezos and Sánchez’s space flights, calling them “gluttonous” and “beyond parody.” McCain highlighted that these displays of wealth and celebrity culture, especially in the context of societal inequality, are increasingly viewed as tone-deaf and unnecessary.
