Neighbor Recalls Travis Decker’s Final Moments: ‘He Had a Sad Face’
Manhunt Continues for Missing Father of Three After Hiding Bodies
A neighbor recounted his last encounter with Travis Decker, a man accused of murdering his three young daughters. The neighbor described Decker as a homeless veteran whom he barely recognized when they briefly spoke on the day the girls were last seen.
Binh Nguyen, who had a short conversation with Decker on May 30, noted that Decker appeared distracted and sad. Despite moving out after a divorce last year, Nguyen had previously seen Decker regularly visiting to pick up his daughters, Evelyn (8), Olivia (5), and Paityn (9), for camping trips and bonding in the nearby mountains.
Decker was polite during their brief chat but seemed distant, asking Nguyen how he was multiple times. Nguyen remembered him as a devoted “girl dad” who loved his children deeply.
The last time Nguyen saw Decker was at 5 p.m. during a court-approved visitation. The girls were scheduled to be returned to their mother by 8 p.m., but when they failed to arrive and her calls went unanswered, authorities were notified.
Three days later, the girls’ bodies were discovered near Decker’s abandoned truck, with plastic bags over their heads and zip ties around their wrists. The search for Decker, a former soldier with specialized training, has now stretched into its fourth week.
Law enforcement announced that Decker might not be alive, as cadaver dogs have been brought in to search for evidence. A new wanted poster has been issued, depicting possible altered appearances, as investigators continue the nationwide hunt.
