First Women’s Flag Football Team at Old Westbury College

Old Westbury College has introduced its inaugural women’s flag football team, set to compete at the club level in 2026 before moving to varsity status in 2027. The team is currently in the recruitment phase, targeting students who have previous playing experience or are interested in joining the team as walk-ons.

Team director Lenore Walsh emphasized the excitement within the campus community, noting strong interest among accepted students and high school programs in Nassau and Suffolk Counties, including Lindenhurst and Port Washington. The team was announced in April and will compete in the Skyline Conference.

The first tryouts are scheduled for this fall, with additional sessions in the spring. Walsh highlighted the inclusive nature of local sports programs, encouraging students not to be discouraged if they aren’t recruited, suggesting that standout players can often be found through walk-on opportunities.
