Anne Burrell’s Final Instagram Post Featured Sweet Photo with Brooklyn Her before Her Passing
The renowned chef was discovered unconscious and unresponsive in her Brooklyn apartment early Tuesday morning, around 7:50 a.m. Emergency services responded and confirmed her death at the scene. She was 55 years old.
Just days prior, on June 12, Burrell shared her final post on Instagram. It featured a selfie with Elizabeth Eaton Rosenthal, affectionately dubbed The Green Lady, a well-known Brooklyn resident. Burrell captioned the photo, indicating she had been eagerly seeking out Rosenthal in her neighborhood and even followed her briefly, remarking on Rosenthal’s lovely nature.
Rosenthal responded to Burrell’s post, expressing delight at meeting her and inviting her to visit her garden to pick figs when they ripen in September. She also shared her love for Burrell, calling her a lovely person to meet and promising to wait for her in the garden.
Family members confirmed Burrell’s death later that day. She is survived by her husband Stuart Claxton, whom she married in October 2021, as well as his son Javier, her children Isabella, Amelia, Nicolas, her mother Marlene, sister Jane, and brother Ben. Her family described her as a beloved wife, sister, daughter, stepmother, and friend, whose bright spirit touched many across the world.
Burrell gained fame through appearances on shows like Iron Chef America, Chef Wanted, Chopped, and Worst Cooks in America. She also starred in the March 2025 series House of Knives and authored two cookbooks—her 2011 bestseller Cook Like a Rock Star and the 2013 Own Your Kitchen.
