Waffle House Post About ‘Realest ID’ Goes Viral, Prompting TSA’s Shocking Response!
Waffle House IDs Not Valid for TSA Travel Verification
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) clarified this week that IDs from Waffle House will not be accepted as valid identification for travel security checks. This response came after a social media post featuring a Waffle House employee ID went viral.
The post, shared on X, showed a yellow Waffle House ID with the caption, “TSA might want REAL ID, but I have the realest ID,” which quickly attracted over two million views and numerous reposts.
The TSA responded directly on X, stating, “Respectfully, no… Waffle House IDs do not meet federal requirements and cannot be used at security checkpoints.”
Many users engaged in the comments, with questions like, “Where do I get my Waffle House ID?” and jokes about the authenticity of other IDs, such as Costco cards. Some wondered how such an ID could be obtained, suggesting it takes more documentation than a standard REAL ID.
In a related note, the TSA reminded travelers that acceptable alternatives to a REAL ID include a valid U.S. passport, passport card, DHS trusted traveler cards (like Global Entry), Department of Defense ID, or permanent resident cards. On May 7, the new REAL ID requirement went into effect, mandating identification with a star in the upper corner for domestic flights.
Recently, the TSA also cautioned against using a Costco membership card as identification, emphasizing it does not qualify as a valid ID for travel.
