Tennessee Deputy Beaten Into Critical Condition on Live TV—Suspect Arrested!

Deputy Hospitalized After Violent Confrontation During Livestreamed Show

A sheriff’s deputy from Tennessee sustained severe injuries after being attacked during a live broadcast of the television show On Patrol: Live. The incident occurred in a residential area in Knoxville as officers pursued a suspect connected to a nearby shooting.

While responding to reports of gunfire, deputies located 44-year-old Christopher Hensley in a wooded backyard. When authorities announced their presence, Hensley responded with threatening language from the shadows. Believing he had a firearm, Deputy Dalton Swanger advanced into the woods with his weapon drawn to confront the suspect.

Footage from the show shows Swanger falling to the ground, appearing limp, after Hensley allegedly struck him in the face with a brick or rock. Witnesses say fellow deputies quickly pulled Swanger out of the brush and rendered aid. Despite attempting to dismiss his injuries, Swanger’s condition worsened, and he was soon unresponsive upon arrival at the hospital.

His partner’s girlfriend recounted watching the attack unfold live. Deputies carried Swanger out of the woods, and he was admitted to Tennessee Medical Center, where he remains in intensive care. The sheriff’s office reports that he is making some progress and can move all four limbs.

Hensley was apprehended shortly afterward and faces multiple charges, including attempted second-degree murder and assault on a first responder. Authorities also seized firearms and illegal substances related to the case.

A GoFundMe campaign has raised over $65,000 to support Swanger and his family during his recovery.
