“Shocking Reveal: Astronauts Name Hidden Inside SpaceX’s Final Dragon Capsule! You Won’t Believe Who’s On Board!”
SpaceX Launches Its Final Dragon Spacecraft, Naming It “Grace”
On June 25, the last of SpaceX’s planned Dragon spacecraft, named “Grace,” successfully entered orbit with a smooth ascent from Kennedy Space Center, Florida. The capsule’s maiden mission began as it separated from its rocket’s upper stage, carrying the fourth crew to visit the International Space Station for Axiom Space.
Commander Peggy Whitson, a former NASA astronaut and current director of human spaceflight at Axiom Space, expressed pride: “We are now aboard the newest member of the Dragon fleet, called ‘Grace.’ It signifies elegance and harmony as we traverse space.” She highlighted that “Grace” symbolizes more than just a name — it reflects the gracefulness of spaceflight and the mission’s noble purpose.
The crew, which includes international astronauts from India, Poland, and Hungary, celebrated the historic launch. Notably, many crew members are their countries’ second citizens to fly into space after a break of over 40 years. The tradition of naming crewed spacecraft with personal or historical significance continues, with SpaceX’s “Grace” following previous ships like Endeavour, Resilience, Endurance, and Freedom.
Endeavour was the first SpaceX crew spacecraft, launched in May 2020, honoring the space shuttle Endeavour. Subsequent ships, like Resilience and Endurance, reflected themes of resilience amid the pandemic, referencing historic resilience stories. The name “Freedom,” chosen by Crew-4, nods to human rights and the first American space capsule named by astronaut Alan Shepard.
Interestingly, the name “Grace” also honors Grace Hopper, a pioneer in computing, and is shared with a lunar surface hopper project by Intuitive Machines and the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, NASA’s space observatory launching in 2027. This tradition of meaningful nomenclature continues to symbolize the pioneering spirit of human space exploration.
