Arsenal Nearing First Summer Signing by Securing Chelsea Goalkeeper

Arsenal is on the verge of completing its first transfer of the summer, aiming to bolster their squad with a new goalkeeper. The club intends to sign Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea, where he has faced limited playing time.

The Gunners, under new sporting director Andrea Berta, are also exploring options to strengthen their attack, addressing a longstanding gap at the top end of the pitch. However, this week’s priority appears to be securing a backup goalkeeper for David Raya.

Kepa, who joined Chelsea in 2018 for a then-record fee of £72 million, spent last season on loan at Bournemouth, where he kept eight clean sheets in 31 Premier League appearances. Notably, he has a low release clause of just £5 million, making the move financially attractive for Arsenal.

This fee is significantly lower—around fourteen times less—than his original transfer fee. Kepa also spent time on loan at Real Madrid in 2023, making 14 appearances, with Bournemouth’s manager showing strong interest in retaining him.

With this potential signing, Arsenal aims to provide competition and cover for David Raya, solidifying their goalkeeping options ahead of other planned summer moves. If completed, it will mark an important first step in their transfer activity this season.
