Ex-Chelsea & Man City Star, Earning £60K/Wk, Faces Financial Ruin After HMRC Bankruptcy S:ho:ck!

Shaun Wright-Phillips Faces Bankruptcy Proceedings

Former England footballer Shaun Wright-Phillips is reportedly at risk of financial insolvency after receiving a bankruptcy petition from HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC). The petition was filed at the High Court and relates to unpaid tax debts. HMRC’s legal action indicates serious financial issues concerning Wright-Phillips’ liabilities.

Wright-Phillips, who made 36 appearances for England and was part of the 2010 World Cup squad, built a notable career in the Premier League with clubs including Manchester City, Chelsea, and Queens Park Rangers. He has also been involved in various business ventures, with his Companies House record listing six companies, five of which have been dissolved. The most recent, VisionPro Sports Europe, was dissolved in 2018. He currently operates SWP29, a public relations firm incorporated in January 2023, which faced debts of over £100,000 after its first year.

He has worked extensively as a football pundit for broadcasters such as BBC, Sky Sports, and Amazon, among others. Despite his media career, legal and financial complications seem to be mounting, with reports indicating he is abroad and plans to contest the bankruptcy claim upon his return.

Wright-Phillips’ football journey included six seasons at Manchester City before transferring to Chelsea, a move he has described as emotionally difficult. He expressed disappointment but explained it was driven by the club’s precarious financial situation. Following his time at Chelsea, where he won the Premier League and FA Cup, he returned to City before later playing for QPR, New York Red Bulls, and Phoenix Rising.

In 2023, Wright-Phillips and his adoptive father Ian Wright made history as the first father-son duo to appear together on a football broadcast. Shaun Wright-Phillips, adopted by Ian Wright after his relationship with his mother, has also been active in football punditry, revealing his deep connection to the sport and his family legacy.
