150 Million Faces Utmost Danger in Unprecedented Century-Long Heat Wave!

Extreme Heatwave Sweeps the East Coast with Record-Breaking Temperatures

A rare and intense heatwave is gripping the East Coast, with forecasts predicting temperatures will reach into the triple digits in many cities. Over 150 million residents are currently under “extreme” heat alerts as the region experiences its hottest days in over a decade.

On Monday, major cities like New York and Washington, D.C., saw temperatures climb into the high 90s, while Philadelphia and Baltimore surpassed 100°F. This oppressive heat is expected to continue through Tuesday, with daily records possibly being challenged or broken, some of which date back over a hundred years.

The heat is attributed to a “heat dome,” a weather phenomenon where high-pressure systems trap hot air beneath a lid of stagnant air, akin to a grill’s lid lowering over a barbecue. This creates prolonged, intense heat that persists over several days.

The dome is forecast to remain over the region until Wednesday, then shift southward toward the Deep South by Thursday, eventually dissipating over the weekend.

Even areas on the periphery of the system are feeling the blistering conditions. A video from St. Louis shows the pavement buckling under the midday sun, causing a street to appear to ripple and even lift a car into the air. In New York City, residents are seeking relief by cooling off at fire hydrants and unloading ice in efforts to beat the heat.

Impacts and Precautions

The extreme temperatures are the result of an atmospheric “trough” on the West Coast, a phenomenon opposite the heat dome, bringing cooler conditions there. However, the eastern regions face imminent danger, especially in humid environments where sweat struggles to evaporate and offer cooling.

Meteorologists warn that high humidity amplifies the heat’s effects, making 90-degree days feel much hotter — over 100°F. Experts advise limiting outdoor activity to 45-minute intervals per hour, staying well-hydrated, and protecting skin from the sun.
