Stunning Phoenix Hiker Escapes Deadly 3-Day Fight for Survival After Falling Off ‘Edge of the World’!
Arizona Woman Survives Three Days in Canyon After Fall
An Arizona woman has been rescued after falling into the “Edge of the World” canyon in Sedona and surviving for three days in harsh desert conditions. Janelle Banda, 32, was on a camping trip with her father when she took a wrong step and plummeted about 400 feet into the steep canyon.
During her ordeal, Banda endured extreme heat and cold, as her family prepared for the worst. She managed to stay hydrated and alert until rescue crews located her. Her rescue involved a helicopter airlift by the Pima County sheriff’s office on June 16.

Her sister, Sarah Banda, expressed immense relief and joy, calling the rescue “a miracle.” The sisters, both experienced hikers, had been on their first trip to the dangerous and scenic location known for its towering formations and perilous cliffs. Janelle’s trek began on June 11, but after wandering away from their campsite and becoming lost during the night, she found herself in a life-threatening situation.
“If you walk the wrong way near the edge, you could easily fall,” Sarah explained. Despite her injuries—sprains, cuts, bruises, and dehydration—Janelle was found alive and taken to the hospital for treatment. She endured a tough night in the hospital and is currently resting at home with her parents, facing physical pain and emotional trauma from her harrowing experience.
Her sister highlights the emotional toll, mentioning that Janelle will have to deal with the psychological aftermath of trauma and isolation she experienced in the canyon.
