Middle School Teacher Arrested for Child Pornography and AI-Generated Abuse Images

A teacher at a middle school near Daytona Beach has been detained on charges of possessing and sharing explicit images involving children and animals. Investigators also suspect he used real photographs of his students to create AI-generated abusive images.

The teacher, David McKeown, who instructed sixth-grade students at UBIC Academy, was apprehended after less than a month of monitoring his online activity. He reportedly exchanged nearly 30 illegal images on Discord, including child pornography and animal abuse content.

Prosecutors allege some of the images were created using AI tools, utilizing photos of actual students he taught. Shockingly, he allegedly interacted with and shared these images while at work, leveraging the school’s internet connection.

Authorities state that McKeown’s actions extended beyond illegal image sharing. He is accused of downloading and distributing the material during school hours, which included personal details of students, and engaging in interactions with other offenders online.

“Parents trusted Mr. McKeown to educate their children, but he betrayed that trust by transmitting and receiving child abuse images and exposing students’ personal information,” said a spokesperson for the Attorney General. “His conduct is profoundly disturbing, and we will pursue justice vigorously.”

McKeown faces 19 charges related to child and animal abuse material, and if convicted, could face more than 300 years in prison. The investigation was initiated after a tip to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, leading to his swift removal from the school and subsequent arrest.
