Jobe Bellingham’s £32m Borussia Dortmund Move & first goal – The Surprising Reason He Wears Only His First Name!
Jobe Bellingham Reflects on His Move to Borussia Dortmund
Jobe Bellingham has shared his experience since transferring to Borussia Dortmund, including celebrating his first goal for the club. Earlier this month, Bellingham moved from Sunderland for an initial fee of £27.8 million, plus £4 million in add-ons, and is now competing with Dortmund in the Club World Cup.
He scored his debut goal during Saturday’s match against Mamelodi Sundowns, helping secure a 4-3 win in the group stage.
The 19-year-old midfielder is following in his older brother Jude’s footsteps, who played for Dortmund from 2020 to 2023 before moving to Real Madrid. Jude has since won the Champions League and La Liga titles.
Sharing his feelings about settling in at Dortmund, Bellingham told FIFA: “It’s been really good. I met the team and signed before I flew out, so I’m starting to feel more comfortable. Moving to a new club and then leaving immediately is tough, but the staff and teammates made it easier, and I’ve really enjoyed the experience.”
He also discussed his decision to put his first name on the back of his shirt instead of his surname, stating: “It’s quite cool and unique. I first considered it when I signed for Sunderland, inspired by suggestions from people close to me, including a coach who encouraged me to do it.” Bellingham added that he finds the gesture special and enjoys it.
In addition, he revealed his admiration for legendary midfielders like Patrick Vieira and Steven Gerrard, learning from watching their clips. “I watch a lot of footage of players like Vieira, who I initially thought was more defensive but actually does everything. Gerrard is another player I observe frequently, along with other midfielders,” he explained.
