Wisconsin Couple Rachel & Brandon Dumovich Found Dead in Illinois Murder-Suicide

Couple Found Dead in Car Days Before Anniversary Amid Investigation

A recently married Wisconsin couple was discovered dead inside a vehicle in northern Illinois just days shy of celebrating their first wedding anniversary. Authorities are investigating whether the incident was a murder-suicide.

The victims, identified as Rachel Noel Dumovich, 29, and Brandon Peter Dumovich, 30, from Sharon, Wisconsin, were found on October 6 along Route 14 in Harvard, Illinois. A police officer, initially checking a possibly disabled vehicle with flashing hazard lights, found both individuals deceased inside. Each had sustained a gunshot wound, and a firearm was recovered at the scene.

Harvard Police Chief Tyson Bauman stated that the investigation remains ongoing, emphasizing that while a murder-suicide is a possibility, no definitive conclusion has been reached yet. The McHenry County Coroner’s Office is conducting autopsies and toxicology tests, with assistance from the county’s Major Investigation Assistance Team. Authorities have confirmed there is no immediate threat to the public.

Background of the Couple

The couple’s love story began years before their wedding. They met as middle school students, with Rachel recounting on a wedding website that she caught Brandon’s eye by “stealing cologne from his locker and running off with it.” They reconnected as adults in 2022 and got engaged in the summer of 2023 on Big Cedar Lake, a meaningful location for Rachel and her family. Their wedding took place a year later, in October 2024, surrounded by loved ones.

Friends and family described Rachel and Brandon as seemingly inseparable, sharing passions for travel, outdoor activities, and peaceful evenings with their two dogs, Dash and Cedar.

Personal Histories and Contact Information

Rachel held a degree in Business Administration from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee and worked in human resources, most recently at Climate Pros, LLC. Brandon served as a petty officer in the U.S. Navy and enjoyed hobbies like RC flying, boating, snowmobiling, fishing, and hunting.
