NY AG Letitia James Defies Indictment: ‘I Will Not Bow!’
New York Attorney General Letitia James Denies Indictment Rumors
In her first public appearance following federal charges, Attorney General Letitia James expressed resilience amid allegations of bank fraud tied to a Virginia property. She asserted her commitment to justice and denounced attempts to silence her voice for political reasons.
Speaking at a rally for a mayoral candidate in Washington Heights, James accused political opponents of trying to manipulate the legal system. She emphasized the importance of defending democratic institutions, asserting, “We are witnessing the fraying of our democracy, the erosion of our system of government.”
Despite facing serious charges—including misrepresenting details on a mortgage application for her Norfolk property—James pledged to persist. She shared her determination, saying, “I will not bow! I will not break! I will not give in!”
She also highlighted her reliance on her heritage and called upon her supporters to stand with her. “Over the past days, I’ve summoned the strength and courage of my ancestors,” she stated, receiving a standing ovation and chants of “We love Tish!” from the crowd.
The indictment from the Virginia court alleges James falsely described her intent regarding a 2020 property, claiming it was her secondary residence when it was used as a rental investment. Prosecutors contend this misrepresentation enabled her to secure a mortgage at a lower rate, resulting in an estimated loss of approximately $18,933.
James remains resolute, vowing to continue fighting “the aggressive policies of Washington, DC,” and reaffirmed her stance of never giving up despite the legal hurdles she faces.
