Wilshere Reveals Wa:rn:ing to Arteta as He Becomes Luton Manager at 33
Jack Wilshere Assumes First Permanent Managerial Role at Luton Town
Jack Wilshere is set to begin his managerial career with Luton Town, embracing the challenges ahead in League One. Having previously served as an Under-18s coach at Arsenal, Wilshere feels prepared after gaining experience as a first team coach at Norwich City last season and stepping in as interim head coach for Norwich’s final two games in the Championship.
Wilshere’s appointment came after a selective process involving nine candidates and four interviews, where his energy, ambition, and passion for football stood out. His connection to Luton—his childhood club—played a role in the swift negotiations that led to his hiring, offering a personal motivation alongside professional development.
He replaces Matt Bloomfield, who was dismissed after a series of poor results. Luton, after a brief spell in the Premier League, has faced relegations and currently sits mid-table in League One.
The former England midfielder recognizes the role’s demands, inspired by advice from Mikel Arteta: “You just have to jump in and swim as hard as you can.” Wilshere plans to establish a team identity, emphasizing principles and standards of behavior, while being adaptable to the strengths of his squad.
He expressed confidence in his coaching philosophy, rooted in control and possession, influenced by his years at Arsenal, while acknowledging the importance of earning the right to play. Wilshere is aware that a fresh approach, even from someone with limited managerial experience, can be an asset, citing examples of recent successful hires without prior experience in League One.
He will oversee his first game against Mansfield Town this Saturday, with assistant Chris Powell aiding him in his debut season. Wilshere sees coaching as a pursuit fueled by passion and continuous learning, and he is eager to prove himself in this new chapter of his football journey.
