Jake Sullivan Credits Trump for Israel-Hamas Breakthrough, Says Biden Had Similar Plan
Diplomatic Breakthrough: President Trump Facilitates Israel-Hamas Peace Agreement
Recently, a major diplomatic milestone was achieved as Hamas agreed to a peace framework that former President Donald Trump championed, with the Israeli cabinet officially approving it shortly thereafter. Trump had introduced his 20-point peace plan on September 29, which played a key role in this development.
While efforts to end the conflict had been ongoing, it was Trump’s strategic approach that ultimately brought the deal to fruition. His former National Security Adviser, Jake Sullivan, acknowledged that “time and circumstances” allowed Trump to secure the agreement, noting that the basic principles closely aligned with earlier ideas from the prior administration.
Hamas is expected to release 20 hostages, all of whom are currently held in Gaza, by Monday. This release is part of the broader ceasefire agreement, which also anticipates a significant influx of humanitarian aid into Gaza. The aid aims to support civilians affected by the ongoing conflict, highlighting the deal’s humanitarian dimension.
Trump will visit Israel on Monday to address the Knesset and will subsequently travel to Egypt to mark this notable diplomatic success. In interviews, Sullivan expressed cautious optimism, emphasizing the importance of seeing the deal fully implemented, including the safe return of hostages and the rebuilding of Gaza.
Sullivan credited Trump’s personal efforts and the work of officials like Jared Kushner, Steve Witkoff, and Senator Rubio. He stressed the importance of ensuring the agreement’s durability, raising questions about its long-term sustainability.
He noted that the peace plan’s core principles are not vastly different from those initially considered by the Biden administration, but acknowledged that evolving circumstances have influenced the current situation.
