Jack Wilshere Set for First Managerial Role with Arsenal Legend at League One Club
Jack Wilshere to Begin First Managerial Role at Luton Town
Former Arsenal and England midfielder Jack Wilshere is poised to take on his first permanent managerial position, set to be announced this Monday. The 33-year-old will return to his roots at Luton Town, the club where he began his youth career. He is expected to succeed Matt Bloomfield, who parted ways with the club after they failed to avoid relegation.
Wilshere’s appointment comes after intense deliberation, with Luton recently narrowing down their shortlist of candidates in London. The club had previously considered other options but seems to have settled on Wilshere, who has been out of coaching roles since leaving Norwich City, where he briefly served as interim head coach.
This opportunity marks a significant step in Wilshere’s coaching career, which he has been eager to pursue since retiring from playing due to injuries in 2022, after a stint in Denmark. He gained experience coaching at Arsenal’s academy, guiding their Under-18 squad to the FA Youth Cup final, before joining Norwich’s staff and stepping in temporarily following a managerial change in April.
Born in Stevenage, Wilshere started playing locally before joining Arsenal at age nine, quickly establishing himself as a key player. He made his senior debut for Arsenal at 16 and earned his first England cap at 18. Over his career, he made 34 appearances for England and became a prominent figure in the Premier League, though injuries hampered his playing days. He retired at age 30.
Luton recently dismissed Bloomfield, who struggled after the club was relegated for the second consecutive season. Currently, Luton sits mid-table in League One with five wins in their first 11 games. Wilshere’s appointment signals a new chapter for the club, as they look to rebuild under new leadership.
