Huntington Beach Bystanders Save Child in Helicopter Crash

Helicopter Crash Near California Beach Traps Young Boy Under Wreckage

A dramatic incident occurred at a Huntington Beach event when a helicopter spiraled out of control and crashed onto the beachfront steps, leaving a young boy trapped beneath the wreckage. Bystanders quickly responded to assist him amidst the chaos.

The helicopter, a Bell 22SP operated by daring pilot Eric Nixon, was participating in the “Cars N Copters” event. Witnesses reported that the rotor detached during the flight, causing it to spin uncontrollably before crashing. Footage shows people scrambling for cover as the helicopter hits the ground, with a girl seen fleeing in horror.

Upon arriving at the scene, rescuers found the child, identified as Oliver Holland, pinned underneath the wreckage. Two men rushed to his aid before the footage concludes. Oliver was immediately transported to the hospital, where he underwent surgery for a collapsed lung and a brain bleed. His family has started a fundraising page, successfully raising over $30,000 for his medical bills.

Nixon and his passenger were unharmed, but the helicopter and two individuals on the ground sustained injuries. Authorities have not yet identified the passenger or the other injured parties. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the cause of the crash.

A witness noted that the helicopter’s rotor appeared to detach, with one saying, “It was spinning weird. I thought it might be doing a trick, but then it started spinning faster and crashed. First the tail rotor snapped, then it looked like something hit the main rotor.”
