AOC Calls Out Trump’s Portland ‘Propaganda’ for Campaign Cash

Progressive Congresswoman Criticizes Federal Response in Portland

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has issued a fundraising appeal amid ongoing tensions between protesters and federal agents in Portland. She accuses President Trump of deploying troops based on misinformation and outdated videos, claiming that much of the administration’s campaign to send law enforcement to cities like Portland and Chicago is founded on propaganda.

In her October 6 email, she described the administration’s actions as “based on misinformation and the creation of propaganda,” urging supporters to donate from $5 up to $1,000 with the message “in solidarity.” Trump has characterized Portland as “war-ravaged” and has spoken of city-wide destruction.

Residents near the clashes report harrowing conditions. One woman told the BBC she wears a gas mask indoors due to park clashes, while others describe the area as a “war zone.” Protesters targeted the ICE facility, with incidents including threats, pepper spray, and projectiles such as rocks and trash, notably on July 4, when the US Attorney’s Office said individuals targeted the building and law enforcement with violent acts.

Local business owner Loretta Guzman expressed frustration, stating, “We struggle every day with crime and drugs, and it feels like our leaders have abandoned public safety.” Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem visited Portland recently, accusing local officials of “covering up” street violence.

Law enforcement reports numerous arrests — 45 since June — and federal charges against 129 suspects since June 8. Clashes continue as residents demand increased safety and accountability amid allegations of “radical violence” and federal overreach.
