Doped-up ‘Dopest Lawyer’ Busted for Drugs
San Antonio Lawyer Arrested for Drug Possession and DWI
A well-known cannabis attorney, who promotes himself as the “dopest lawyer in town,” was recently detained on charges of drug possession and suspicion of driving under the influence. He was apprehended after allegedly driving under the influence in his girlfriend’s neighborhood and throwing objects at her house when she refused to see him.
Authorities responded after a witness reported his reckless driving close to midnight. The lawyer, Daniel Micah Mehler, who describes himself as a leading advocate for individuals facing cannabis-related charges, was found to have drugs in his possession. Police noted he smelled heavily of alcohol, was slurring his words (which he claimed was due to a speech impediment), and showed signs of intoxication such as bloodshot, glassy eyes and unsteadiness on his feet.
During the arrest, officers discovered three small paper tabs inside a gum wrapper. Mehler was uncooperative with field sobriety tests and was taken into custody. He faces charges of drug possession—less than 20 units of a Schedule 1-A drug, including substances like cannabis, ecstasy, and LSD—and suspicion of driving while intoxicated. He was later released on bail.
It remains unclear what specific substance he had, but the quantity was below the legal threshold for Schedule 1-A drugs in Texas.
Mehler, who has practiced criminal law for over ten years and actively works on marijuana law reform efforts, maintains a high-profile online presence. He has previously encountered legal issues, including an arrest in July 2024 for charges of sexual assault, family violence, and violating a protective order, though those charges were dismissed due to insufficient evidence. He also has a prior arrest for DWI approximately ten years ago.
He is scheduled to appear in court next month for the latest charges.
