Former Manchester City Player Julian Alvarez Shares Pep Guardiola’s World Cup Prediction That Caught Everyone Off Guard

Julian Alvarez has recounted how coach Pep Guardiola predicted Argentina’s victory in the 2022 World Cup shortly after he joined Manchester City. Argentina secured their third world title in Qatar, defeating France in a tense penalty shootout.

Alvarez, who transferred from River Plate less than six months before the tournament, recalled a training session where Guardiola confidently forecasted Argentina as the winners. “It was during my first days after arriving, and the players were discussing which teams were strong,” he explained. “Pep pointed at me and said, ‘You know who doesn’t say anything will end up champion?’ and that was Argentina.”
