Uncertainty Surrounds Why Rep.-Elect Adelita Grijalva Has Not Been Sworn In

The delay in swearing in Rep.-elect Adelita Grijalva remains unexplained as long as House Speaker Mike Johnson refuses to reconvene Congress. Speculation points to possible political motives behind the postponement.

One theory suggests Johnson may be stalling to prevent Democrats from gaining an additional vote on crucial measures, such as ending the ongoing government shutdown. Another possibility, highlighted by Grijalva herself, involves her being the final signature needed on a discharge petition related to the Epstein files, which could be politically sensitive.

On CNN, Grijalva explained her confusion about the delay: “I’ve observed that the House has sworn in Republicans who were elected in special elections shortly after their victories, often within 24 hours. However, despite scheduled readings, sessions have been canceled multiple times, and now it appears no new members will be sworn in until the Senate acts on certain legislation.”

She added that many believe her pending swearing-in is linked to the Epstein files, an issue she suggests has been deliberately kept under wraps by the House leadership. “The delay seems connected to the lack of transparency around those documents, and House Speaker Johnson has previously postponed votes on them to avoid controversy,” she said.

While it remains uncertain whether Johnson’s postponement is to buy time for resolving the government shutdown, the Epstein files, or both, the situation underscores a growing concern about transparency and integrity in House proceedings.
