Former Mexican World Cup Player, Omar Bravo, 45, Arrested on Child Sex Abuse Allegations

Omar Bravo, a celebrated figure in Mexican football, has been detained in Mexico on suspicion of sexually abusing a minor. The 45-year-old former striker, who played 66 times for Mexico and participated in the 2006 World Cup, is accused of abusing a teenage girl multiple times over recent months.

The local authorities in Jalisco have indicated that there is concern Bravo may have engaged in similar misconduct previously. His arrest took place during a police operation in Zapopan, near his former club Guadalajara. Investigations are ongoing, and Bravo is expected to face court soon.

His legal team has reportedly been reachable for comment. Bravo is regarded as one of Mexico’s most talented forwards, holding the record as Guadalajara’s top goal scorer. He retired from professional football in 2020 and then briefly managed a club.

During his active career, Bravo began with Guadalajara in 2001, amassing 156 goals in 400 appearances across three stints with the club. His national team career spanned a decade, during which he scored 15 goals and participated in major tournaments, including the 2004 Olympics and the 2006 FIFA World Cup.

Later, he played in Major League Soccer with teams like Sporting Kansas City, North Carolina, Phoenix Rising, and Arizona Monsoon, where he retired. Post-retirement, Bravo briefly managed the Arizona team in 2024.
