Trump Deploys Troops to Another U.S. City

Trump Continues Deployment of National Guard to American Cities

President Donald Trump is fulfilling his promise to deploy additional National Guard troops to U.S. cities amid ongoing tensions. On Saturday, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker announced that the federal government had plans to send 300 troops to Illinois without his approval, with officials indicating they would proceed if the state did not act.

During a recent statement, Pritzker criticized the move, claiming it was primarily about asserting control rather than ensuring safety. He argued that the deployment was unnecessary and disruptive, pulling citizens away from their daily lives for a staged demonstration rather than real security concerns. The Department of Homeland Security has requested troops to support Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations, which have resulted in over 1,000 arrests.

The exact details of when and where the troops have been sent remain unclear. Previous deployments include Washington, D.C., Portland, Los Angeles, and Memphis—though some of these efforts have faced legal challenges. A federal judge in Portland temporarily blocked Trump’s military presence, stating that claims of unrest were unfounded and warning against blurring the lines between civil and military authority.

Trump has long-criticized Chicago, calling the city “a mess,” and has suggested using it as a training ground for military exercises. During a recent military meeting, he suggested deploying troops there soon, criticizing the local leadership.

Chicago’s Governor Pritzker criticized federal agents for aggressive tactics during ICE raids, including a raid in the South Shore neighborhood that resulted in 37 arrests, some involving children being separated from their parents. DHS officials reported that the area was associated with gang activity, though residents claimed they were caught in the chaos regardless of warrants.

Recent violence includes DHS officials shooting an armed individual after a vehicle ramming attack, with the suspect in FBI custody. Protests have erupted outside an ICE facility, with arrests made during a demonstration triggered by government actions.

Gov. Pritzker accused the federal government of fueling chaos intentionally, suggesting that the unrest is a deliberate strategy to justify more troops on the ground in cities like Chicago.
