Montgomery Football Game Shooting: 2 Dead, 14 Injured
Multiple Victims in Downtown Montgomery Shooting
A violent incident in Montgomery has resulted in two confirmed fatalities and 14 injuries, including children and a woman, in a mass shooting that occurred late Saturday night.
The shooting took place in the city’s bustling downtown district, shortly after a college football game between two historically Black universities. Authorities reported that the violence erupted following a confrontation between rival groups that escalated into a gunfight, discharging bullets into a nearby crowd and injuring bystanders.
Authorities describe the scene as chaotic, with law enforcement arriving to find multiple casings and bottles scattered across the streets. The incident involved participants firing recklessly without regard for those around them.
The victims include at least two children, one of whom is in critical condition, and a woman among the dead. Thirteen of the injured remain hospitalized, with three in life-threatening condition. The other nine have sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
So far, no arrests have been made. Police are investigating the motive behind the shootout, which appears to have stemmed from a dispute between the involved parties. Authorities emphasized that the shooters showed a reckless disregard for public safety during their reckless exchange of gunfire.
Police Chief James Graboys stated the violence was a result of a confrontation spiraling out of control, with the suspects indiscriminately firing into the crowd without regard for bystanders. The investigation remains ongoing as officials seek to apprehend those responsible.
