Wayne Rooney Slams Arne Slot for Player Misuse, Says Ruben Amorim Would Be ‘Slaughtered’

Wayne Rooney Criticizes Arne Slot for Tactics at Liverpool and Compares to Ruben Amorim

Liverpool is going through an unusual spell by their high standards, facing increased scrutiny following recent defeats. The team lost 2-1 to Crystal Palace in the Premier League and was defeated 1-0 by Galatasaray in the Champions League.

In Turkey, Liverpool’s performance and team selection by manager Arne Slot drew sharp criticism. Slot deployed midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai and right-back Jeremie Frimpong as right wingers in a 4-2-3-1 formation, a tactical choice that backfired. Szoboszlai conceded a penalty, which Victor Osimhen converted to secure victory for Galatasaray.

Former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney expressed disappointment with Liverpool’s setup. On BBC’s The Wayne Rooney Show, Rooney remarked, “I thought they were really poor.” He criticized Slot’s decisions, saying Liverpool looked disorganized, especially with their passing and injury issues during the game.

Rooney also highlighted that Slot’s successful season last year might have caused some of his questionable tactics to be overlooked, unlike under-pressure managers like Ruben Amorim. Rooney stated, “If Amorim did the same, he’d be heavily criticized.”

Looking ahead, Liverpool aims to break their two-match losing streak with an upcoming match against Chelsea in the Premier League.
