Jimmy Kimmel Reacts to Show Being Pulled Indefinitely

Jimmy Kimmel Recalls the Sudden Suspension of His Show

While in the bathroom, Jimmy Kimmel was blindsided to learn that his late-night program, “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” had been indefinitely taken off the air.

During an appearance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” Kimmel described the experience as a “strange and emotional rollercoaster.” He explained that, around 3 p.m., just before his show scheduled for 4:30 p.m., he received an unexpected call from ABC executives while in the bathroom. They expressed concern about his monologue content and decided it was best to pull his show from the schedule.

Jimmy Kimmel described the overwhelming moment of discovering his show’s suspension.

Kimmel recounted that when he told the ABC team he believed the suspension was not a good idea, they voted to proceed with the cancellation. As he relayed the news to his team, the audience was already seated for the taping, unaware of what was happening.

After the show was canceled, Kimmel stayed on set briefly before heading home, only to be shadowed by paparazzi, TMZ vehicles, and helicopters as he made his way back. He described the chaos: “Followed by 20 paparazzi cars, TMZ, and people jumping in front of me.”

Kimmel mentioned that he was pursued by paparazzi and helicopters on his way home after the suspension.

He shared that the next days felt like “jail,” with limited communication, as he was flooded with phone calls and couldn’t make any public statements. Despite the turmoil, Kimmel’s show was later announced to be returning to the air, a decision revealed days afterward. He emphasized that there was “nothing funny” about the circumstances surrounding the suspension, which followed a controversial monologue discussing Charlie Kirk’s death.
