Kelly Clarkson’s Emotional Return to the Spotlight After Brandon Blackstock’s Passing
Kelly Clarkson Returns to Her Show After the Passing of Ex-Husband Brandon Blackstock
Kelly Clarkson made an emotional comeback to her eponymous talk show after the recent death of her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock. The reunion was recorded during a live taping, which aired on Monday, following production that commenced on a Tuesday morning.
Although the specific date of filming was not disclosed, reports indicate that work on the seventh season of “The Kelly Clarkson Show” resumed the week of September 8. The season’s theme is centered around “light,” symbolizing hope during dark times, as explained by showrunner Alex Duda.
During the premiere, Clarkson showcased her vocal talents by performing The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” and Katrina and the Waves’ “Walking on Sunshine.” The episode balanced light-hearted interviews with stars like Colin Farrell and Margot Robbie with inspiring stories of heroism from individuals who helped during July’s floods in Texas Hill Country.
Clarkson did not mention Brandon Blackstock—who passed away in August after battling melanoma—during the episode. Her music director, Jason Halbert, mentioned that Clarkson’s “Kellyoke” segments often reflect emotions she may choose not to openly express in interviews.
Blackstock, a talent manager, died at age 48 and was survived by their children, River and Remington, as well as two adult children from his first marriage and a grandchild. Reports indicate that Blackstock was dating Clarkson’s former assistant at the time of his death.
Clarkson has not yet issued a public statement regarding her ex-husband’s death. Their relationship began in 2012, culminating in marriage in 2013 and ending with their divorce in 2020.
