Michael Cohen Stuns MSNBC Panel on Comey Indictment
Former FBI Director James Comey Faces Indictment Amid Political Controversy
Michael Cohen, former personal lawyer to President Trump, made a surprising statement during a Saturday panel, suggesting that he believes James Comey, the former FBI Director, “likely committed a crime” in light of recent indictments.
Cohen explained, “I believe he will probably be found guilty.” This comment shocked the MSNBC panelists, with one responding, “That’s interesting,” and another expressing confusion. Cohen emphasized that while he is unsure of the specific crime, investigators have extensive documents to potentially uncover wrongdoing. He also criticized the Department of Justice, claiming it has been “weaponized.”
Cohen, who pleaded guilty in 2018 to tax evasion, campaign finance violations, and lying to Congress, has since cooperated with authorities and publicly criticized Trump, including testifying against him during a hush money trial.
When asked whether the DOJ had been weaponized under the Trump administration, Cohen argued that this had been happening for a long time. MSNBC host Ayman Mohyeldedn questioned Cohen’s view, prompting Cohen to suggest that evidence might eventually justify Trump’s claims of political vendettas.
Indeed, Comey was recently indicted on charges of making false statements to Congress and obstructing congressional proceedings. He is scheduled to surrender himself this week, with arraignment set for October 9 in Alexandria.
Investigations into Comey’s actions include whether he lied during testimony about the FBI’s handling of the Trump-Russia investigation known as “Crossfire Hurricane.” The legal proceedings signal a highly charged political atmosphere surrounding his case.
