Diddy in NYC Court Before Sentencing
Sean “Diddy” Combs Makes Court Appearance Amid Praise from Inmates
Sean “Diddy” Combs appeared in a Manhattan courtroom dressed in prison-issued beige scrubs. During the 90-minute hearing, reports emerged that inmates at the Metropolitan Detention Center, including an alleged heroin dealer and a convicted pimp, had written commendations for a business class he supposedly taught called “Free Game With Diddy.”
Inmate testimonials included Douglas Welch, charged with running a sex trafficking ring, who praised the class for teaching him real-life lessons, and Arturo Santiago, arrested with drugs, who said the program gave him a sense of purpose. These comments aim to show Combs’ good character and may influence his sentencing.
Court documents revealed that Combs conducted a six-week course covering topics such as personal growth, patience, trust, failure management, and resilience. A court filing noted that he also offered a “bonus class” with motivational themes like “can’t stop, won’t stop.” One session titled “Failure” provided advice on handling plans that go awry and managing financial and scheduling setbacks.
The court was informed that Combs has fostered friendships with other inmates, sometimes helping them through commissary purchases, which court papers suggest might be an explanation for the positive inmate reviews. He faces up to 10 years in prison at sentencing next Friday for charges related to setting up illicit sexual encounters with escorts traveling across state lines.
Despite being acquitted of racketeering and sex trafficking earlier this year, Combs was convicted of violating the Mann Act, which criminalizes transporting individuals across states for prostitution. He has requested to be released on time served, whereas prosecutors are seeking a sentence exceeding five years. During Thursday’s hearing, he expressed love for his supporters and optimism about returning home soon.
