Liverpool Wonderkid Rio Ngumoha Gets 360% Pay Rise Despite Still Earning Less Than Teammates
Liverpool Prospect Rio Ngumoha Secures a Significant Salary Increase
The young talent has committed his future to Liverpool until 2028, signing a new contract valued at approximately £52,000 annually. This is a notable rise from his previous scholar’s salary of £14,400, with additional earnings possible through performance bonuses.
Ngumoha was eligible for the contract after turning 17 last month, as regulations restrict clubs to offering three-year deals to players of his age. The versatile forward has made a remarkable impact in his debut season, earning the trust of manager Arne Slot.
He scored the winning goal on his first appearance against Newcastle in August and has subsequently featured three more times, including appearances in the Champions League against Atletico Madrid.
Last year, Ngumoha joined Liverpool on a free transfer from Chelsea in a move that sparked controversy and a dispute between the clubs. Chelsea officials expressed disappointment, feeling they had lost a potential star and called for a tribunal to determine compensation. A decision from the Premier League is pending, nearly a year after the transfer, with Chelsea hopeful that Ngumoha’s impressive debut will bolster their claim for a fee.
Despite the move passing the league’s approval process, it remains a contentious issue. Ngumoha’s rapid progress and current contract reflect his rising potential within the club’s ranks.
His signing highlights Liverpool’s focus on developing young talent, though his wages still lag behind those of his senior teammates.
