The United Nations proved President Trump’s critique of the global body when they featured Violet Affleck, the 19-year-old daughter of actors Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner, to speak on the importance of air filtration.

During the UN’s Healthy Indoor Air session, Affleck, without any formal qualifications beyond her celebrity status, criticized airborne viruses and emphasized mask mandates amid the ongoing pandemic.

She accused adults of ignoring or downplaying airborne transmission and the long-term effects of COVID-19, despite ample scientific evidence suggesting masks are largely ineffective at curbing the virus’s spread.

The pandemic has largely faded, with infection rates now extremely low in New York City and COVID no longer a leading cause of death in the U.S. Studies, including a comprehensive review, indicate that masks make little to no difference in preventing COVID-19 transmission. Even experts like Dr. Anthony Fauci have acknowledged masks’ limited impact.

Critics see the UN’s choice to highlight a non-expert, who previously suffered a post-viral condition, as emblematic of its misplaced priorities and lack of credibility. Meanwhile, President Trump questioned the UN’s value, criticizing its failures and allegorical dog-and-pony shows, such as symbolic recognition of Palestinian statehood.

He summarized the UN’s shortcomings as a disconnect between its potential for good and its actual harmful and ineffective practices, which often create more problems rather than solve existing ones.

Ultimately, Trump’s view aligns with the sentiment that the UN, initially envisioned as a force for global peace after World War II, has devolved into either a detrimental influence or a complete farce.
