Harry Kane: England Ready to Walk Off in Belgrade if Racist Abuse Occurs
Harry Kane Threatens to Walk Off if Faced with Racist Abuse in Belgrade
England captain Harry Kane has stated that the team will leave the pitch if they experience racist abuse during their upcoming World Cup qualifier in Belgrade. The match at Rajko Mitic Stadium has already been impacted by racist incidents in a previous game against Andorra, leading to reduced spectator capacity.
When asked if he would lead his teammates off if such abuse occurs again, Kane responded affirmatively, referencing a similar incident during a match in Bulgaria. He emphasized that UEFA has protocols in place and that the team is prepared to follow the necessary steps. However, he expressed hope that this situation will not arise.
“We are more focused on the game itself and how we can perform against Serbia,” Kane said. “We’re ready for what may come, but we’d prefer to avoid such incidents.”
In addition to stadium concerns, Kane addressed criticism from former England striker Michael Owen, who described Kane’s transfer to Bayern Munich as “nuts” when he was close to breaking the Premier League’s scoring record. Kane defended his decision, stating it was to compete at the highest level, participate in major tournaments, and improve as a player.
