Toraya Reid, 28, was reportedly shot and killed by her boyfriend on Saturday morning.

Authorities quickly apprehended Shaquille Green, a 29-year-old man who was reportedly dating Toraya. The two lived in Jackson Township, though it’s unclear if they shared an apartment. Green has been charged with her murder and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Toraya was the elder sister of Naz Reid, a rising NBA talent who recently signed a $125 million extension. Naz, who has a strong following, previously praised Toraya for her protective nature and inspiration during their childhood in nearby Asbury Park.

Reid’s youngest sister, Jakahya, expressed grief and asked for privacy following the tragedy.

Naz reflected on his sister’s influence, remembering her as a provider and protector. “She treats us like she’s our parent,” he shared in a 2023 interview. The family is devastated, with Jakahya acknowledging the unimaginable loss and asking for respect during this difficult time.

Naz previously said Toraya was like a mother figure to her siblings.

All three siblings attended Roselle Catholic High School in northern New Jersey. Naz excelled in basketball, while Toraya enjoyed softball, with their father coaching football.

Green remains in custody at Ocean County Jail pending a detention hearing.
